- They’re fun and festive. Who doesn’t love a good themed drink at a celebration? I love the green color and the little sprinkle of gold sugar dusted over the whipped cream.
- You can make them in advance. These shots can be stored for 4 days so you can easily make the batch ahead of time and then pop them out to serve.
- Fun to customize. I’m going with green for St. Patrick’s Day but this jello shot recipe can be easily customized for any party or celebrations. Simply choose a different flavor of jello and sprinkles to match your theme.

Jello Shot Ingredients
Try your luck at making these super simple and deceptively intoxicating St. Patrick’s Day themed Jello Shots! As always, you can find the full printable recipe with complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of this post. Here’s what you’ll need:
- box gelatin: I used lime flavor for the green color and citrus flavor.
- water: Boiling hot, of course!
- vodka: For this recipe I used apple, again to go with the green theme. I think the sweetness of the apple flavoring pairs perfectly with the tart citrus of the lime Jello. You can use any flavor you prefer.
- garnishes: Whipped cream and gold sanding sugar.
This basic Jello Shot recipe works for all flavors of jello so use your favorite flavor and color to match your party’s theme!

Jello Shot Recipe FAQs
Can this recipe be doubled?Absolutely! This recipe begs to be doubled or even tripled to serve a whole party! After all, no one stops after just one Jello shot!
Can I use all vodka instead of water and vodka?Unfortunately, no. Making the jello as directed in the recipe card is imperative for it to set up properly. Vodka alone won’t solidify enough to give you the consistency you need for the shot. The water mixed into the gelatin is important to the process and needs to be kept in. Best to stick to the recipe in this case.
Can I use a different flavor of jello?Yes, you sure can! This This jello shot recipe works for all flavors of jello so use your favorite flavor and color to match your party’s theme!
Trish’s Tips and Tricks
- Add the whipped cream and sprinkles just before serving for best results.
- Feel free to use plain vodka or any other flavor you want. I chose a “green flavor” to fit the theme. The same goes for the Jello. I chose green for the holiday but you can easily change the flavor and color to fit any occasion.
- Do not add more than half a cup of vodka to the recipe. The jello won’t set properly if you add to much.
- Swap out the gold sanding sugar for some festive St. Patrick’s Day sprinkles. Or any other kind of sprinkles/colored sugar to fit your theme.
