Well, it happened. Doritos made a Mtn Dew-flavored chip. It was only a matter of time, really. Created as part of the 20th anniversary of Baja Blast (aka the Bajaversary), Doritos Baja Fiery Mango chips are available for a limited time only. And they’re not easy to find. It took us actual months to track down a bag! But we finally got our grubby mitts on these Fiery Mango Doritos, and now I’m ready to review them, so you can decide whether you should also spend months of your life searching for some Baja Fiery Mango Doritos.
New Doritos Flavor!
Doritos Baja Fiery MangoWalmartAccording to a statement from Doritos given to Food & Wine, these new Doritos aren’t supposed to taste exactly like a Baja Blast. Instead, the creators wanted to lean into the mango-habanero flavor. That makes sense—it’s a classic pairing. The fruitiness of the habanero pepper goes great with the tropical flavor of mango. Plus some savory Doritos magic? Sign me up! But that’s not what happened here at all.
Pros: These Doritos Fiery Mango chips are certainly interesting. It’s a totally unique flavor—not just for a chip but for anything. It’s extremely fruity, almost like Doritos and a fruit roll-up had a baby. Or, to be a bit more generous, it’s kinda like a mangonada—a combination of mango and chamoy. And it’s also quite spicy. There is real heat that hits you. You take a bite, you’re confused, you’re shocked, what is that flavor! And then, bam, you can’t focus on it anymore because of the spice. The best thing I can say about these chips is that they are not boring.
Cons: While the flavor is totally new and I am all for trying new things and having new taste bud experiences, this was not my cup of tea. It really wasn’t anyone’s cup of tea—or even soda. It’s just too strange. It’s far too sweet. It’s a spicy, fruity (in a soda kind of way) chip. And I don’t know what it’s for, aside from pleasing the Bajaversary gods. Perhaps this is someone’s favorite Doritos flavor. Perhaps it’s yours. Is it yours? Let us know in the comments so we can study you in a laboratory.
