Because of his height, he was mostly utilized as a Libero in first grade. Ran enrolled in Nippon Sport Science University after graduating from high school.
On December 19, he made his first appearance in the top Italian division as a substitute in the third set against Modena Volley.

Ran has a one and a half year older brother, Rui Takahashi, and a younger sister, Riri Takahashi.
He began playing volleyball after his brother, and his sister is also a volleyball player.
He and his brother run a YouTube channel named RanRui, which is a combination of their given names.
Ran stated in an interview with SunChlorella Sports that he disliked practicing with his brother when he was younger.
He had to get up at 6 a.m. and go to the park to practice volleyball with his brother, something Rui frequently pressed him to do.
Rui is now the captain of the Nippon Sports Science University volleyball team.
